CarPlay stopped working in 2023 Benz after updating to iOS 18.1.1. Phone won’t connect to car play, nor will it pair as a new phone to car. I deleted the old connection and tried to re-pair it to the car to get Apple CarPlay to work again and now it won’t even pair! Please help

Hey folks. I did a lot of searching and trying things and finally had success today so I wanted to share. By the way I have a vpn too and in or off that did not help my situation. What worked was this. 1) Delete phone from car and delete car from phone. 2) RENAME phone 3) Reconnect. This solved it for me. Now this is a 2021 Porsche Macan so every car might be different but I’m thinking that the bug has to do with settings embedded in the way our phones used to connect to our cars and somehow that’s married to the profile the phone has which is associated with it’s device name. So when I gave my iPhone a new personalized name it forced a brand new ios18 connection which must have created new connection preferences. I’m speculating here by the way. But whatever the reason, after deleting the car from the phone and the phone from the car and renaming the phone and reconnecting as a new phone…it worked. To rename your phone go to settings>general>about and change the name. Good luck. I hope it works for everyone.
Good for you… however, I have a bunch of Bluetooth devices that know my phone’s name as well… I’ll have to test these devices before I jump here. I’d rather talk to Apple and understand the root cause and understand their position…( I’m a senior software engineer)… Apple, if you’re listening…

Turning off VPN won’t work for me, as I’ve never used one! And I don’t want to rename my phone because of connections to so many other things.
Apple MUST be able to sort this, as it must be affecting so many people.
CarPlay will not connect this morning. iPhone 16; iOS 18.1.1; 2024 Lexus RX350h. I connect via Bluetooth. Phone and Music connect but when I try to connect using CarPlay, nothing works. I have tried deleting connection from phone and from car and starting over however that didn't work. I have not tried renaming the phone yet but prefer not to do that because, as others have stated, other things are connected and it will be a PITA to change everything. I guess if it doesn't get resolved soon, I'll have to figure out which is the worse PITA.
Ever since the update my Apple Music will not work & keeps glitching when I plug up my phone to the car with the standard USB cord that has worked just fine for years before the update. I have even downloaded Spotify which works just fine so I’m able to at least listen to music when I’m in my car. Any other music playing app still works fine it’s only apple music and I hate this. I even bought the new iPhone 16 and the problem still persists. Apple can you please fix this ASAP it’s a must because so many people are having this problem.
I have the same issue after installing iOS 18.1.1. When I removed my phone from the vehicle and the vehicle from my phone, I restarted both the phone and the vehicle (2024 Honda Pilot). When I tapped on the phone icon on my stereo, it only brought up a screen to dial. It lost my shortcuts. I’m going to try renaming the phone and try again.
Apple - please fix this and push out a new update quickly!
The common thread for all of these discussions is an issue with Apple’s iOS operating system. You shouldn’t have be a device contortionist to get your phone to connect. We pay a lot of money for Apple devices because we believe they are better. This is NOT better.
2020 BMW X5 . Same issue. Apple Broke CarPlay on the 18.1.1 update. I updated to 18.2 …same issues. Incoming audio stops working after 2 or 3 minutes into a call and the only remedy is to call back..but it stops work again. Stop saying it’s the VPN settings…I have NO VPN configured. Infuriating that I am holding a $1000.00 that breaks every time there is an update. Apple, get your stuff together!!! The fix is buying an Android!
Same issue for Volvo V90 MY18. Doesn’t connect via cable. And had a wireless kit, that sometimes works but keeps on crashing the infotainment system. Indeed solution needed, because I guess car software won’t be updated anymore.
Identical problem 2021 Porsche Macan. Used to work fine. Doesn’t anymore.
Same thing happened to me on both my 2020 Prius and 2023 Sienna.
Same issue… 2019 GMC Sierra… Apple Car Play reboots the radio constantly since 18.1.1…. Fix it.
Turning off the VPN did not solve the problem for me.
For what it’s worth, my phone still connected fine with my 2013 Land Rover even after I changed the name. I did not have to re-pair.
I tried that and it didn’t work. Tried renaming the phone, resetting the network connections, turning everything off and restarting. Nothing has helped.
I installed 18.2 today..same issues. Audio drops after a few minutes into call when using CarPlay.
