Deleting Duplicate Photos

Hi, could anyone help with this? I have a MacBook Pro 2015 with Monterey 12.7.1 and I cannot find the utilities to search for duplicate photos. I have no utilities in the sidebar of the Photos app.

It is a bit weird - Photos 8 on Ventura is spending a lot of time to search for duplicates, but using it only to remove the duplicates and clutter from the Days and Memories, to hide them from us.

As a work-around on Ventura or earlier: To find candidates for duplicates look at the photos that have been removed from the Days - these are either screenshots exact duplicates or similar photos. You need tow helpers:

  • Select all photos in the Days view and add them to a new album, call it "Curated".
  • Then create a new smart album with the two rules
    • Album > is not > Curated
    • Photo > is > screenshot
  • Combine the two rules with "Match Any"

Now you can step through this smart album and check the remaining photos for duplicates. Select a photo, ctrl-click it and use "Show in All Photos" to see, if there is a duplicate, then delete the one you do not want.
