Small chip in the screen above the camera in iPhone 16 Plus

I bought my daughter the iPhone 16 plus. Put a screen protector on it as soon as it came out of the box. Shes had her phone for just over a week. Yesterday she asked me if i can take the clear screen protector off and put a privacy screen protector on that she bought from a local phone store. When i took the clear screen protector off and gave the screen a clean, I noticed she has a small chip in the screen just above the camera. I said to her did you drop your phone? “No mum”. I knew then somethings not right with the screen.

Hello. If your device is within the return period, or warranty (which I would assume it is since it is iPhone 16 series), then I would just take it back to your local or nearest Apple Store and see if they would kindly exchange. Typically, they are pretty good about these types of things, especially if you did not do anything to cause the damage. Depending on your particular instance, they may charge a fee for the replacement due to the glass break, however it is worth a shot. In the future, I would also consider investing in an AppleCare plan for your device for extra peace of mind. Hope this helps.

Ive spoken to someone at the store i bought the phone from and told him what happened. He said sounds like your daughter dropped the phone. I said no she didnt and even if she did would the screen chip under the screen protector? After a lengthy conversation and getting no where, he said without Applecare the screen will not be replaced for free.

Thanks for that. My daughter still had the option to purchase Apple-care which is what shes done. She’s not bothered by the small chip in the screen and the privacy screen protector thats on it now covers the chip 😊 However, should the chip get worse OR the screen suffers further damage then she will be covered. I have read so many posts about the 16 screen being damaged a day or two after the phone comes out of the box, it made me think that it is not normal for the screen to scratch or break easy and from personal experience with iphones the screens never broke or scratched for me or my kids in the past as we only ever buy iPhone.
