I don’t answer unrecognised numbers. A number was ringing me while watching the screen a message appeared “caller is leaving a message” I don’t have voicemail mail set up - how? Is this happening? Is this some form of a hack into my iphone? How is it possible to send a message just by making a call?

Some cellular services provide a generic voicemail service if you don’t setup your personalized voicemail. It’s worth confirming. I know AT&T used to provide the service.
The notification is a new feature related to the new Live Voicemail feature. This feature is on by default I believe.

It is not a hack. Your cellular provider probably has voice-mail on their system.

I’m sure my provider does have voice mail facilities - but, not for my number? - As previously stated I don’t have voicemail set up?
Is this a new apple feature? Because I have now had 2 calls where this has occurred? I managed to get a screen shot second time…!
