iPhone 16 stopped charging via USB-C

I bought an iPhone 16 on September 20 and encountered a charging issue on October 28. The cable wouldn’t charge, and connecting to the MacBook didn’t transfer data. Apple couldn’t diagnose the problem and replaced my phone. A month later, I had the same issue, and Apple didn’t replace my phone but offered to exchange the central unit. After two hours of trying, they couldn’t fix it either. They’ve ordered a replacement phone. Is this a common issue with the iPhone 16, or am I unlucky? I’ve been using iPhones since the 4 series and have never experienced this level of unreliability from an Apple device.

It’s certainly not common to have two units fail from the same issue. If it happens to a third unit I would start to suspect conditions surrounding the charging. Are you taking these to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Repair?

I’m a former Apple Store manger and they were probably replacing the logic board. I’ve seen a unit go bad like that. It happens occasionally, not often, but it happens. If it happens again, then something is amiss with the charging.

Yes, I took it to a local genius bar and so far they cannot give me an explanation why it happened they even changed the central unit and the problem persists hence they offer another replacement.

I charged the phone with M2 Macbook air adapter with two USB-C ports. I have been using them for more than a year to charge my old iphone 12 without any problem.
