Connect a DVD/Bluray player to Apple Studio Display

I purchased an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable so that I can connect my DVD or Bluray player to my Apple Studio Display but the display won't turn. Both devices are power and when I turn on, put the disk in and click play on the player the display is still turned off. The monitor works fine with my laptop. Any ideas?

Studio Display won't accept this kind of input - the data/protocol is not compatible between DVD/BluRay player and Thunderbolt Display.

No matter what kind of adapter you have explored.

The only way to play BluRay/DVD is - you connect the BluRay/DVD Drive (not commercial BluRay/DVD Player) to a Mac machine (Mac Mini, Studio, MacBook Air etc.) -- then connect to the Studio Display from Mac machine.

Oh, if you want to play BluRay, you will need another software to decode the BluRay (I use AnyMP4 Mac Blu-Ray Player).
