Toyota Rav-4 CarPlay issues with car location in all map apps

I have a 2024 Rav-4 that I connect to my I-phone 14 Pro running IOS 18.1 using CarPlay. Everything works well except for Waze, Google maps, and any other location app. These apps position my car miles away and provide directions that are totally incorrect for where I am. The car’s native navigation system works fine.

I have taken the car into Toyota twice to get it fixed, but they can’t find any problem with the Toyota. My phone works well in directions when it’s not connected to the Toyota. I have precise location turned on in the apps. This problem has gotten me lost and almost into accidents. Does anyone have any help out there?

Hey Troy,

I just had some luck. I tried a solution I found in Reddit. I got into SETTINGS on the Toyota and had the Toyota

"forget" my phone. Then I re-established the connection again. For the last two days it's been locating well. Not sure if it will continue, but it's pretty much on point.

My Iphone is updated to 18.1 OS and the Toyota software is also up to date, and Google location services and Waze are both set to ALWAYS.

My 2024 RAV4 has the same issue where Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze are only accurate about half of the time using Apple Car Play. My iPhone 13 is always up to date and I never have any issues when my phone is not connected to Apple Car Play. I’ve opened several cases with Apple and Toyota customer service but nobody has been able to solve this problem.

I have mostly gone through Toyota, but they say it's an Apple issue. Who is responsible for the integration?

I have been lost in dangerous areas and unable to find a hospital when a person I was visiting got ill. It's dangerous.

How did you raise this with Apple?

Apple always says it’s a Toyota problem and Toyota always says it’s an Apple problem. I finally got tired of dealing with their excuses and gave up. You would think that Toyota and Apple would work together to solve this problem but unfortunately they haven’t
