Where is “Select All” in Safari and other browsers?

There is no longer an option to “select all” text from a web page in regular mode and ‘reader mode’. I’ve tried:

  • long holding in an empty space
  • tapping with one finger twice
  • tapping with one finger three times
  • selecting a word and dragging the blue selection flags back together then accessing the submenu
  • scrolling the submenu with any amount of text already selected
  • viewing the ‘share’ menu
  • and visiting various websites with different technologies

Still, not able to select all

I have to drag one of the blue selection flags all the way down (or up) the webpage regardless of how long it is and how slow it scrolls while selecting the text.

Even then, it’s not necessarily going to work. A lot of times, when I tap to bring up the menu after selecting all that text (sometimes it doesn’t automatically come up) the selection text disappears and I have to go through it all again.

I know you are able to select all when writing text but I’m talking about a web page.

Am I missing something here? Is there another way to ‘select all’ on a website!?

"Where is 'Select All' in Safari and other browsers?"

Selecting All on a Web Browser on an iPhone:

You can't: Unfortunately, the option is gone since iOS16. However, you can recommend to Apple that they bring it back. With such a small screen it would be inefficient to copy all of it, and the paste all of it. Best you can do is highlight all items by holding down you finger, and swipe up and down. Elsewise, using an app from the App Store may do; as for which one, I'm not so certain. Don't just grab an app off of the web.

Select from a Screenshot:

Take a screenshot, and then select the text from the screen in the Photos app. Then, tap your finger and Formatting would not be saved. Swiping two fingers together or apart would zoom out, allowing you to select more text. That's how I always do it.

Provide Apple Feedback:

Apple wont get back to you directly on this, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they'll know what suits their customers' needs and wants. Being there is no "General" feedback for the App Store, use iPhone feedback, as that is the device you are using. Apple will know nothing of your ideas, if you don't provide them to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: That you want this to be an option and why.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary.
