Apple TV HD remote not working in setup

I just reset my apple TV 4th gen, and my remote (Siri remote, white ring around menu button) will not let me continue setup. I tried to pair the remote but i am now stuck on a screen that says “hold < or menu and + to pair“, which did not work.

Not sure if i need a new siri remote, or my apple tv is just bricked.

Also, iTunes, nor apple devices, on windows does not detect the apple tv. So any troubleshooting tips that require that, wont work.

Is the status light on the front of the box glowing continuously? It should. Off means unpowered; blinking/flashing means a system failure in not being able to start up properly.

Holding down Menu + Volume Up for a few seconds is indeed the pairing procedure. Reconnect the Apple TV remote - Apple Support

Try charging the remote battery, if that has been a while. Charge the Apple TV remote - Apple Support. The black Siri Remote needs a Lightning-to-USB cable for that.

Connecting the box to a computer through USB-C requires a generic USB cable that supports data transfer (not a charging-only cable, nor a bespoke cable that is for use with a specific device).

Also, the unit needs to be self-powered at the specified moment (step 4, not earlier).

Restore your Apple TV - Apple Support

Other devices won’t detect it until after it has been set up again. A reset device wouldn’t be registered/activated, nor have correct network settings yet.
