Yubikey 5 series NFC usbc unable to get past biometric pin to add key

I have 3 yubikey series 5 nfc type a keys already on my account. Setup went fine. I purchased a new yubikey 5 series nfc usbc to add to the account. I already have my pin setup and confirmed it worked on other services outside of apple and it works fine. When i attempt to add this new key it recognizes it and asks for the pin. I enter the valid pin and it enters a loop cycle that asks me to re-insert and enter pin. It wont go beyond that point. Again, it’s an approved yubikey 5 series nfc type-c with an active fido pin that i verified works on other services outside of apple. Not sure why it wont accept the pin and add the key? I tried on my ipad pro m1 and also my iphone 14 pro (both on ios 18.1.1). When i try on the iphone, it recognizes it via nfc but doesn’t ask for a pin…and just asks if i want to open my.yubico in safari.

There is a known issue with newest firmware yubikey 5 series that causes my exact issues. Looks like the fix will be in ipados/ios 18.2. This makes me feel better because it works great everywhere else and the older firmware yubikeys work fine.

All is functioning well and turned on in the yubico manager for usb and nfc settings. Device fido2 Pin confirmed correct. Everything on yubico playground works appropriately. Able to login to a different account with the yubikey fine. As mentioned earlier, my older series 5nfc usb-a keys added without a hitch (older firmware 5.1.2 vs new key 5.7.1 that isnt working). Doesnt work via ipad pro (wont take pin) and NFC wants to open a website instead of asking for pin on iphone 14 pro. Both have 18.1.1 ios. I have a mac mini coming soon but no other apple products to try. It briefly says “unrecognized pin….” Before it loops back to starting over. I even deleted/re-setup all keys and no matter what i tried the newest 5 typc nfc would not even get to ask to enter pin. I also have a new series 5 nano usb-a (firmware 5.7.1)that wouldn’t setup either. Im at a loss.
