Why aren’t my CDs recognized in the Mac music library?

I have an MacBook Air M1. I am attempting upload music CD’s into my music library. Several times, the music isn’t identified as an album and the tracks aren’t named. The music is a bit obscure, so I have to name the album and tracks manually. Once the music is loaded, I am able to name the tracks, but have problems naming the album. Get info isn’t bringing up the pop up to name the album and show in finder won’t let me name the album, or if it does it doesn’t show up in my music library.

It may help to start in the Songs view of the Music library and click on the heading of the Date Added column once or twice to get your content sorted in Date Added, descending order. You should then be able to select the first of the recently added tracks, hold shift as you click the last to select the range, and then press Cmd+i to Get Song Info. At this point you should be able to set common properties of the album, such as album title, artist, album artist, genre, year, no. of discs and no. of tracks, etc. All metadata edits should be made inside Music, not Finder.

Note that you can do the same in the CD import dialog before ripping the CD, which may be easier in future.

Find All of your MP3 Files:

You'd have to dig through your Finder on your Mac. The following would find all downloaded music --nothing in iCloud.

  1. Click: the Desktop
  2. Click: File menu
  3. Select: New Finder Window
  4. Type: kind:Music mp3 in the search bar on the top-right corner of the window
  5. Find: the file
  6. Rename: the file

Changing Album Artwork:

  1. Right-Click: anywhere on the album/song page
  2. Select: Get Album Artwork
