Incomplete album import in Music on Mac mini

iTunes and Music use the CDDB Gracenotes database to try to recognize an inserted CD on the basis of the pattern of tracks on the disc. While usually successful there are occasions where the CD is not recognized, or perhaps there are multiple potential matches and the software for whatever reason declines to prompt you to select an option. You can manually fill in an missing details before or after ripping the CD via the cmd+i Get Info dialog. You can organize your songs view by date added to show the tracks in the order they were added to the library if you have trouble locating a recent import. Where details have not be gathered the tracks will typically be labelled Track 01, Track 02, etc. and blank album, artist, or album artist values may be treated as Unknown Album and Unknown Artist. If any track is unreadable from the CD it will be skipped, and Music may well not provide any error message to indicate that there was a problem.

Use View > Show Filter Field to enable a more useful search function.

iTunes/Music should show an artwork image for any album where at least one track has an associated or embedded artwork image. There are a couple of options which may only be available when using the Songs view with View > Show Column Browser enabled. These are Group Compilations and Use Album Artists. In particular if Group Compilations is active the Artists menu may only list artists where at least one of their tracks is not marked as a compilation, and CDDB often marks anthology collections of a single artist's works as compilations when for the purposes of the app it is better used only on Various Artists type albums.

You can right-click on an album cover to get info for all the tracks of an album, or once the tracks are visible you can select the first, then shift-click the last to select all of them. Cmd-click can also be used to add or remove items to or from a selection.
