After software update to 11.1 display doesn’t show unless I hit one of the side buttons. Always on doesn’t work nor does raise to wake. Tried soft reset and turning on and off raise to wake and always on

Is the theatre mode on? Check that via the control center> theater faces logo>if these are orange theater mode is engaged. Click the logo to turn it off
To rule out a software issue, the next step would be unpairing the watch and connecting it again to your iPhone:
No theater mode is off
Then you should contact the official Apple Support, they can diagnose your watch online.
Or visit an Apple Store or Authorised Apple Support Provider to get it checked.
I unpaired my watch factory data reset and repaired it and same issue. Pretty annoying. Apple can we get a fix please
It shows the red notification indicator when I raise to look at it but screen is black. I think it’s a issue with the software update
