iMac running macOS Monterey 12.7.6 extremely slow start up

running macos monterey 12.7.6 this morning it needed 20 minutes from switch on to get going. Previously start up took 2- 3 minutes, When I tried to start the browser (firefox) from the dock(it is a login item but did not seem to start) I got a message that it was searching applications ( I have never seen that before). Attempting to join a zoom meeting I was told I did not have zoom installed (it worked yesterday) so I re-installed it.. .

System seems to work normally again now but I am nervous about shutting down in case I cannot restart it at all. I routinely back up all essential files and user data to dropbox and USB. I do not have a spare disc to use Timemachine)). I have checked that the login items have not changed.

Yesterday I experienced very sluggish reponse to the keyboard, but have now recharged it and the typing seems back to normal.. I have run etrecheck but need advice on what to do about the report so will put it in 'extra text'

Basically your computer is a real mess due to what you have done to it by adding third party Bitdefender antivirus software that has damaged Mac OS. You have also installed Bitdefender VPN software which is equally as damaging. In addition you have installed Avast Smart VPN Network Extension - version 4.2.5 (AVAST Software a.s.) The last thing I see is your system security has been turned off. In short, these types of apps are extremely bad for your system!!!!!!

Mac OS is catlike and does not require or benefit in ANY, repeat ANY way by adding the following types of third party apps:

  • Antivirus
  • VPN
  • Cleaning
  • Security
  • Maintenance

Mac OS can do EVERYTHING these days apps purport to do. All that Mac OS needs in order to remain secure and fast is simply to keep Mac OS up-to-date and restart the computer about 1x per week. Other than that please leave Mac OS alone and let it do its job.

To be 100% honest, I strongly recommend that you do an erase of your total system and then reinstall Mac OS and manually re-install your third party apps and data. Moving forward NEVER EVER install those types of apps again.

I am pretty sure other experienced users from these forums will provide similar advice.

Best of luck!
