Secure Erase with diskutil crashes consistently with OS High Sierra 10.13.6 I am trying to securely erase unused space on my iMac's internal hard disk under OS 10.13.6, using the Terminal. Over several attempts, some using freespace setting 0 and some 1, my computer hangs up when between 71% and 84% of the free space has been erased (see screen grab attached); this usually leads to a major crash in which either I must do a brutal restart by unplugging the power cable, or else (when left to run overnight) the computer crashes and goes to a black screen, necessitating a restart. The reason I am using the Terminal rather than simply going through Disk Utility's Erase function is that the relevant button is greyed out. Any suggestions? Can't open Disk Inventory X. Help Hi, A while back I needed help clearing out unneeded stuff on my MacBook Pro and it was here I believe that someone recommended Disk Inventory X for seeing on a colorful graphic everything that was taking up space on hard drive and how much space. And then for removing a lot of it. It worked really well. It was a life saver. So now I'm back in the same position. I only have a little space left so I went to the Disk Inventory X that I had earlier downloaded and it would not open. Something about 'we can't verify it doesn't have malware.' And the only options were cancel that action and eject disk or eject something. So I downloaded again and I'm getting same message. Is there any way I can use this again? If not, is there a similar app or software I can get to do the same thing? Thanks! I'm attaching screenshot.

That is always shown when running First Aid and is not an issue. Are you actually getting overallocation errors that cannot be repaired?

Completely normal. A newer version of the APFS utilities within a later version Disk Utility is backwards compatible with older versions of the APFS file system.
