Unlocking MacBook Air after being locked out for multiple hours

After restarting my computer and putting in my password, I got a message saying try again in one hour, you are locked out.

when I tried again, I got the message that I was locked out for three hours. Now I’ve gotten the message that I’m locked out for eight hours. I don’t think I’m doing anything differently. There seems to be no way to correct this problem if I can’t logon the frigging computer
