Deleting photos/videos from photos app increases storage space taken up by photo app????

My iphone11 is full so i airdropped 5gb worth of images and videos from my iphone11 to my new macbook pro and deleted them from my iphone11.

Initially, the photo app storage decreased so the iphone11 storage space decreased from 127.9 to 123.9. However, after a few hours (NO new photos taken, no new applications downloaded, nothing done), the iphone11 storage space increased back to 127.9 and the photo app storage is HIGHER than before i deleted the images and videos...

Anyone knows why? Please help :( Is it because of icloud and the iphone11 is downloading back the photos from the macbook.. i really don't get it

Are you using iCloud Photos on the iPhone and the Mac, with the same Apple ID? If so, adding the photos to the main Photos Library on the Mac would have re-added them to iCloud and to the iPhone.

The photos that you deleted from the iPhone are probably sitting in the Recently Deleted album, taking up space there until 30 days pass, or you delete them from there, whichever comes first. Once they become permanently deleted, you will get the space back.

is iCloud syncing the two devices? Sure sounds like it. Check if you’re syncing photos.

Hi!! Thank you for replying. Yes, they have the same Apple ID. However, the airdropped photos and videos are in a folder in Desktop, not in the main Photos Library. Does that make a difference? Will the photos in the folder in Desktop of my macbook be re-added to iCloud and to the iPhone?

If the AirDropped photos are loose in a folder, they won’t automatically be reimported to the Photos library on either device.

If they are in a folder that is synchronized through iCloud Drive, they might be visible through the Files app on the iPhone as individual files, but I do not believe the iPhone would automatically download them to local storage.
