iOS 18.2 Heating issues and battery drain

Do you all face the same issues as I do? Here it is:

I’ve installed the new version of iOS(18.2) and i’m struggling with a few issues:

1- Overheating a lot overheating only when i tried to use the new Ai features like GenMoji and Playground app , I just wanted to try out these features.

2- Extremely battery drain , again related to the new Ai features.

My question is why is this happening ?

For me, iPhone 14 Pro Max, updated and while on a wireless charger within 5 minutes stopped charging and it noted that it would continue when it cooled down. It was extremely hot.

When on a charger, it slowly drained. I checked what was using my battery and it had a mile tracker app running in the background, and it was at 99% of the batteries usage. Not used the app for quite a while so I deleted it and it seems to be charging again now.

After over a week of terrible battery life and burning hot phone, with my phone even refusing to charge at times last night because the temperature was too high, with a complete reset and reinstall not fixing the issue, I am cautiously optimistic that I *may* have solved the problem by resetting, removing, and re-adding my Apple Watch. It looks like Apple's calendar sync service may have been the culprit, trying to sync with the watch. I don't explicitly use the Calendar app, so it was mystifying to me why it was showing as consuming hours of battery (versus minutes for apps like Facebook that I actually used). I'm still running in low battery mode for now, but the heat has eased up, the downward slope on the battery chart has flattened off some, and the activity chart is looking much better.

Apple does not respond to users here, except to answer precise use questions.

The vast majority of users are seeing no issues with iOS 18.2, so most of these issues come down to:

  1. For the first 24 - 48 hours after an iOS update, more battery power will be used as the device needs to rebuild various databases
  2. Apps that have not been properly updated to work with iOS 18.2 may use more power than usual

In my experience the remote diagnostics will say there is an issue, but may not be able to pinpoint the exact cause. The Genius Bar can do a more thorough examination and they’ll usually be able to pinpoint the issue. The genius will answer questions to the best of their ability. Sometimes you just have to open it up and do more extensive testing. I’m a former Apple Store manager.
