How to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app?

I can't see any good way to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app. I think you can do it by scrolling down with two fingers, but that's a pain when you have hundreds of emails. In the older versions of Mail I would normally Select All then Mark as Read which made it easy to see where I left off the last time.

Am I missing something?

TIA

It is there , but the control has changed . At your mail box , on the top across you can see Primary plus three other icons( transactions , updates & promotions ) . Scroll to the left and it will reveal one more after the last icon which is All Mail . Tap on All Mail , then tap Select . The Select All will appear on the left upper . Click Select all and all will be selected .

Thanks, but I think there is still an issue. When you “select all”, if there are any already-opened and read emails in your box, the option it gives you for all of them is to “Mark as Unread” whereas it used to be completely the other way around. If you had any unread emails the default option was always to “Mark as Read” to easily clear your whole inbox. Maybe they will update this too?

Yes, the "Select All" option will indeed appear in the new Mail app in iOS 18.1 and 18.2. However, there's a small detail to keep in mind that might affect you if you use multiple email addresses simultaneously. To access the "Select All" feature, you must first navigate back and select a specific email address before opening the "All Mail" section. The Mail app will not mark all emails as read if multiple mailboxes are selected. This limitation is important to note for efficient email management.

Thanks. I'd read about that before but couldn't get it to work. Turns out, at least on my phone, if I scroll to the left to get All Mail, tap on All Mail, the Select All button doesn't appear for some reason. But if I again scroll to the left so All Mail is visible, the Select All magically appears. Must be a bug. Thanks for your help.

My selection button at the top vanished on iPad with iOS 18.2. I’m sure it was there yesterday…anyhow I force restarted my iPad, no change then exasperated I did it again & the select button is now back allowing multiple emails to be selected to put in bin / delete etc

Huh? first off, what is "your mail box"? Would that be the "Inbox" screen? Or the "Mailboxes" screen? In either case, I see nothing across the top like "three other icons( transactions , updates & promotions ) "
