How to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app?

I can't see any good way to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app. I think you can do it by scrolling down with two fingers, but that's a pain when you have hundreds of emails. In the older versions of Mail I would normally Select All then Mark as Read which made it easy to see where I left off the last time.

Am I missing something?

TIA

Heres a future reference for those who haven’t figured it out,

If you have the mail categories turned on, go all the way to the category on the right, to the All Mail "category"(which can be done by swiping right) . Then "Select All" will show up in the top-left when you choose "Select". If you are within Primary or any of the other categories, there is no Select All button.

..."At your mail box , on the top across you can see Primary plus three other icons( transactions , updates & promotions ) . .. "

Huh? first off, what is "your mail box"? Would that be the "Inbox" screen? Or the "Mailboxes" screen? In either case, I see nothing across the top like "three other icons( transactions , updates & promotions ) "

  1. In order for the ”Select All” option to appear you must have “Mail Categories” turned on, click on the three dots at the top right and click on the “Categories“ option.
  2. Once that’s done make sure you are currently viewing the ”Primary” category.

3. Once you are here, Swipe “Left” and it will move you to a hidden category called “All Mail”4. Now click on the ”Select“ button at the top right of your screen. 5. Once done now you should see the “Select All” on the top left of your screen.

For some odd reason, they have the select all option instantly pop up when you hit Select when deleting Junk and Trashed Mail, no idea why they have it setup so complicated. Hopefully this helps.

This is quite long so just buzz over it without trying to keep track of the steps. Then read it slowly and see if you can reproduce what I am Seeing.

The issue I see is that the Buttons under search that I see are:

Primary, Transactions, Updates, Promotions.

I am NOT seeing the "All Mail" Button.

Here is what is do and see it:

Only one button at a time has text.

Start by tapping on the Primary button on the left, it shows the word "Primary"

then click on the "Shopping Cart" button and it shows the text "Transactions"

Then click on the icon that look like a comment "Text on multiple lines and pinches to a point at the lower left it shows the text "Updates". Then the "Bull Horn" icon, click it and the text "Promotions".

The "All Mail" button/Icon is NOT in the List. If I place my finger on the Button/Icons and try to slide them Left or Right they move but just a little.

If I click on the "Promotions" button/Icon I get the "All Mail" Icon and the other four are just Icons.

When I hit the "Primary" Icon the "All Mail" Icon on the Right appears and has Text.

If I click on the "All Mail" button/Icon I get the "Primary" Button/Icon and the other four are just Icons.

It's like the "All Mail" is the LAST on on the right and the only was to get it to show is to Click the "Primary" Button/Icon. Also if i hold a Button/Icon ( that has text ) for more than a few second the release it ALL of the Icons collapse and one of them has Text in it.

Starting with "Promotions having text you can click on each Icon from Left to Right ending on "Promotions" then click the others and they all work. To get to the "All Mail" you can click ANY Button/Icon that has text and the "All Mail" icon has Text.

On my iPhone if the Text Size is too large you can not scroll the icons left and right.

If I change the Text Size small enough then ALL the Icons will fit side by side and you can scroll them all left and right.

If I set the Text Size is too large you can not scroll the icons left and right.

At this point on my iPhone you can just click on an Icon so it has text then click on it again and you should then see the "All Mail" Icon with Text.

Let me know if the above is what you are seeing.

Also let me know if the above is different from what you see when changing the Text size.

Try the smallest Font first, if it works try Two sizes Larger until the "All Mail" Icon does NOT appear.

Dear Apple. This is ridiculously convoluted . I don’t want categories highlighted, I just want to Select All once I’ve searched for a sender’s email that I wish to bulk erase, eg Facebook, Uber, Amazon. I’m not interested in scrolling with two fingers, which is the only option when I have Categories deselected. Just make Select All available within any search.

I'm on 18.5 on iPhone 16 and my email is on a Microsoft Exchange Server.

When I Click on"< Mailboxes" in the upper Left look there are TWO sets of Email boxes shown.

Mailboxes and Exchange.

The search only searches the "Mailboxes" but the "Exchange" folders are NOT being searched since they are specific to Microsoft Exchange Server.

If the Emails you are searching for are NOT in the "Mailboxes" section then you cannot search the "Exchange" folders.

You can click on a Mailbox in the "Exchange" folders and search the One folder but I don't see any way to search ALL the "Exchange" folders.
