Wi-Fi Calling Not Working on iPhone 16 pro max with eSIM in Russia

Hello,

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 16 pro max and noticed that Wi-Fi Calling is no longer working. I’m using the same eSIM and LTE settings that worked perfectly on the iPhone 11. My carrier does not impose any restrictions on this feature, and Wi-Fi Calling is enabled in the phone settings.

I’ve already tried:

• Resetting network settings.

• Reinstalling the eSIM.

• Ensuring iOS is updated to the latest version.

• Switching the network to LTE-only mode.

Despite these steps, Wi-Fi Calling does not activate. Is this a known issue with the iPhone 16 pro max, or are there any additional steps I can try?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Apple has no control over the activation or use of WiFi calling. This is an issue you will have to take up with your carrier.

If you have a phone that was originally sold in a country other than your own, there may be compatibility issues.

My understanding is that at this time, Apple products are not legitimately available in Russia due to the sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine.

Many Apple services are also currently unavailable in Russia.

What is the model number of the phone, particularly the 2 characters before the /A in the model number?

Thank you for your reply. I understand that Wi-Fi Calling is a carrier feature, but I want to clarify that I used the same carrier with my iPhone 11, and Wi-Fi Calling worked perfectly in Russia without any issues. Additionally, I contacted the carrier, and they confirmed that they do not impose any restrictions on this feature.

This leads me to believe that the issue might be specific to the iPhone 16 or perhaps related to its compatibility with networks in Russia. Could there be a region-specific software or hardware limitation affecting this feature on the iPhone 16?

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your detailed response.

To clarify:

1. I previously used an iPhone 11, also purchased in the United States, and Wi-Fi Calling worked perfectly in Russia with the same carrier. I’ve now upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and this is the only feature that isn’t working.

2. While I understand there are sanctions, legitimate iPhones are available for purchase in Russia, and most Apple services work here without issues.

3. My model number is MYW63LL/A.

Could this be related to regional compatibility for the U.S. model of the iPhone 16 Pro Max? Or perhaps a software issue that specifically affects Wi-Fi Calling on this model when used outside the U.S.?

I’d appreciate any additional guidance or troubleshooting steps.

Thank you for your continued responses.

I understand that this device is intended for the U.S. market, and I’m aware that regional compatibility could be a factor. However, I’ve personally used U.S.-market iPhones in Russia before (specifically an iPhone 11) with the same carrier, and Wi-Fi Calling worked without issues.

If this is indeed a compatibility issue, do you think there might be specific settings I could try adjusting? Or could it be related to changes in hardware or software with the iPhone 16?

I appreciate your help and any additional suggestions you might have!
