Apple TV+: Video doesn’t stream over HDMI from downloaded episodes

I am a new subscriber to Apple TV+ and have downloaded multiple episodes of Slow Horses for offline viewing.

Viewing on my iPad Air works well. When I try to stream an episode to my external monitor (I don’t own a ‘television’) through a FeinTech VAX01301 box, the audio (Bluetooth to my headphones) works fine but the video goes blank (other than the pause, forward and back onscreen controls) after the ‘last episode’s highlights’ bit is finished.

With my setup, I’ve been able to stream an episode of another series to the external monitor with perfect video and audio. Other AV sources (e.g. YouTube) work fine too.

Is there a DRM-related problem with the downloaded episodes, and if so, how can I sort it out?

How do you get an HDMI signal out of your iPad?

Did you get Apple’s adaptor [1 Lighting] or [2 USB-C], or a third party adaptor? Is it HDCP compliant?

Is the monitor HDCP compliant (HDCP v2.2 or later for 4K)?

Is any equipment in between HDCP compliant?

Apple TV+ content is DRM protected, same as any commercial content, so that could be an issue, if you try anything “unofficial”, i.e. different from intended.

Was that “episode from another series” also from Apple TV+? I would expect this to behave the same for any content from a chosen content provider.

The cable from the iPad (iPad Air M2, USB-C connector) is a ‘Uni’ and is HDCP 2.2 compliant.

The VAX01301 is HDCP 2.2 compliant.

The cable from the VAX01301 to the monitor is a Belkin. I believe the model is AV10050 (so says the sticker on the box) but cannot be sure. It is supposed to support 4K @ 60 Hz, 18 Gbps bandwidth. I cannot find any mention of HDCP on its box.

The monitor is an MSi MAG321CURV. Its manual does not mention HDCP.

That “episode from another series” was indeed from Apple TV+. The only differences I can see (other than its being from a different series) are that it was a pilot episode and I was streaming it from Apple’s server rather than playing it from my tablet’s Library.

I’m thinking that something in the process of downloading and storing sets a flag that is interfering with re-streaming (iPad to external devices) the video upon replay. If that’s the case, I’m OK with streaming some episodes I’ve already got in my Library, or deleting them from my Library in order to stream them; I just don’t want to lose them completely. I have not figured out how to stream something from Apple that I’ve already downloaded, though.
