Wired mouse not working with iPhone

Hi, I'm trying to use a wired mouse (Logitech M90) with iPhone SE 2nd Gen. (iOS 16.6) and it's not working. I've turned on Assistive Touch and the cursor appears, but it's unresponsive when I move the mouse. I've turned the phone off and on again, and tested the mouse on a computer to make sure the mouse is fine.

One possibly unusual thing I've done here that might be the problem, is that I'm using the charging/syncing cable that comes with the iPhone to connect the mouse to the phone. I put a female/female USB-A dongle in between the mouse cable and the phone cable to connect the two. I just thought it should work since the phone cable is also a data transfer/syncing cable, and not just a charging cable.

The only other possibility that's come to my mind is that the Logitech M90 is not compatible with iOS and can't be used with iPhones, although almost all articles I've read on the matter say that virtually any mouse should work.

I'd like to know what the issue is before I blindly buy other cables and mouses to see if they would work. Any input would be appreciated, thank you!

You’ll not be able to directly connect a USB device to your iPhone using just your Lightning to USB Type-A charging/data cable. Instead, you must use an Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter:

Don’t be confused by the name of this Adapter - as it is the key to connecting many USB devices to your iPad. The adapter incorporates the essential USB Controller/Root Hub that interfaces USB accessories to your iPad’s Lightning port.
