Hi Tad_Cooper

Re: "I don't hear the alert sounds for txt messages or e-mail arrival.
I hear phone calls ring and can switch phone conversations to my aid".
First: If you use the Messages app for txt messages, and the Mail app for e-mail, as many of us do, you may want to go to: Settings > Notifications > and check that notifications for the Messages app, and the Mail app are on.
Then: There's a choice of where to: "Adjust the settings and view the status of your hearing devices"
- "In Settings: Go to Settings
> Accessibility > Hearing Devices > MFi Hearing Devices. - By triple-clicking the side or Home button: Use the Accessibility Shortcut if you’ve set it up.
- In Control Center: Tap
. (If you don’t see
, add it to Control Center.) - On the Lock Screen:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > MFi Hearing Devices, then turn on Control on Lock Screen. From the Lock Screen, you can do the following:"
(Eg:) "Choose to play ringtones through the hearing device".(amongst other settings you can use)
Above comes from Apple support's article: Use hearing devices with iPhone - Apple Support

Note: Just checked: I do not see any Phonak hearing-aids listed as being "Made for iPhone" compatible

If above suggestions are not working for you, best to check with your hearing professional, hearing-aid manual, the hearing-aid manufacturer's support website, or contact the manufacturer. You may want to find out if there is an app (or firmware) that you can use for greater control. Eg: Phonak Support Centre
