Connecting issues using Thunderbolt cables with Apple devices

Thunderbolt 2 cables why does the adapter go thunderbolt 3 male to thunderbolt 2 female which means you still need a thunderbolt 2 cable which Apple don’t make anymore, making thunderbolt 2 devices land fill before they are broken.

Such cables are not in short supply. There are many high-quality cables that don't come from Apple. OWC, CalDigit and StarTech are all good vendors, and there are others as well (I'd avoid "no name" brands). You don't need to look for an Apple-branded cable to have success.

Sorry I slightly disagree with the statement about the adapter yes it does go from 2-3 but requires a thunderbolt 2 cable .

The adapter was made that way to provide you with a Thunderbolt 2/Mini DisplayPort like the old Mac.

Apple missed a selling opportunity to sell a male connection thunderbolt 2 adapter to a female thunderbolt 3/4/5 cable.

Not true. You should already have and be able to use the Thunderbolt 2 or Mini DisplayPort cable for the device that was plugged into your old Mac.

which they do sell thus selling the customer 2 products in the uk on google search I’ve got one potential shop and eBay 2nd hand cable.
the other potential brands don’t get a mention for thunderbolt 2.
going to try that company on Monday 🤞🏻

I'm not sure why there would be any less Amazon or other suppliers in the UK than anywhere else.

Perhaps you need to widen your search from "Apple thunderbolt 2" cables to just "thunderbolt 2 cables"

Again, none of those after-market devices (drives or audio devices) ever had an official Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable from the factory.

I do not agree, Apple made adapters so that you could use your Thunderbolt 2 devices instead of replacing them.

Precisely. Many a 27" Thunderbolt Display is still in use – instead of in landfill – because of that adapter. (That display, and the similar 27" LED Cinema Display, get brought up fairly often on these forums, because they look similar, and have cables with "Mini DisplayPort" plugs, but require different adapters.)

Most of the people who have old Thunderbolt 1/2 devices already have cables with a plug on the end. They are looking for a replacement for the built-in Thunderbolt 1/2 socket on an old Mac. The adapter has a TB2 socket that can provide a TB signal (though not a mDP one, or any substantial amount of bus power).

The links you gave are possibly not official Apple cables unless they are 2nd hand, or sold buy companies I have never heard of and with cables available on ali express which look identical you don’t know if you are getting the genuine product.

Apple chose to make the adapter that way around knowing full well that the cables would be in short supply because they stopped selling them and any product that had a thunderbolt 2 connection would have its life span shortened.

i have four audio devices that run on thunderbolt 2 that would cost me £5000 to replace with the same product but with thunderbolt 3 connection.

Many are not official Apple cables, but that doesn't mean that they will not work.

Apple chose to make the adapter that way around knowing full well that the cables would be in short supply because they stopped selling them and any product that had a thunderbolt 2 connection would have its life span shortened.

If the current non-Apple Thunderbolt cables that came with those devices no longer work..?

Then it would be best to shop for replacement cables from vendors that have a good return policy.
