Order Stuck on Processing for Pickup

Hi,

I placed an order for a MacBook Pro M4 for in-store pickup in France. The order was placed a while ago (8dec), and I expected it to be ready by now. However, it's currently December 15th, and the status is still stuck on "Processing."

Is this delay normal? Should I expect an update soon, or is there something I need to do on my end? I’d really appreciate any guidance or similar experiences from others.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (M4)

There is no warehouse of finished Macintosh computers, waiting to be pulled out and shipped to you. Each and every unit is built to an order in huge factory in the Far East, historically China.

In almost every case, the store has ONLY the floor samples on display, which can not be sold as new, and essentially NO units in stock, (except in very rare cases.)

Some stock units that are expected to be in high demand may have been ordered internally, and may be available for more rapid delivery to a wide area, such as any the Apple stores in a specific Metropolitan Area. Exactly where this Metropolitan Area stock is kept is unknown. Some are guessing that stock may be in the back room at the various stores in that same Metropolitan Area. So users MIGHT find that their high demand unit could be handed over today -- but that is quite RARE for computers -- more common for iPhones.

--------

The different 'states' that your order can transition through are described in this document, and are roughly:

Order Acknowledgement, followed by 'Processing' -- which is described above

'Preparing to ship' -- your unit has passed all testing, been packaged, and moved to the shipping area of the factory.

'Shipped' -- your items was handed to the international carrier and has left the factory

Next, your item is handed over to a local (in country) delivery agency for expedited delivery to you or to an Apple store. At this point, home delivery orders are generally sent an expected delivery date.

Pickup Notification -- its available at the store or at your door.

Unfortunately, Apple has been using slightly different terminology for these steps, so the actual wording may be different.

the process is described in this document as well:

There's no way any of us can give you an estimate as to when it will actually ship. This time of year things are probably moving more slowly due to the usual significant increase in orders, so what someone might have experienced a few months (or even a few weeks) ago probably won't be applicable. You can check your order status on line and see if that gives you any information:

Libre-service (en ligne) - Aide à l’achat - Apple (FR)

If not, call the Apple Store and see if they can provide an update, though if it's not showing online, the agents probably won't have any additional information.

Regards.

Your information about 'surface shipping required' is NOT correct. Apple has made arrangements for routine shipments of pallet-loads of computers to be air-shipped, and meets the carrier's requirements for those air cargo shipments.

Status of 'Processing' happens after 'Order Accepted', and means that the parts are being collected and your computer is about to be built, or is being built and tested in the factory.

If you order a unit whose component parts are in short supply, such as an extra-large drive, a high-end processor, or a very large RAM memory, there is sometimes a delay at this point in the process.

Hi Grant,

Thank you for the detailed explanation—it really helps me understand the process better! Regarding your question, my online order doesn’t show an anticipated delivery date, which is why I’ve been a bit unsure about when to expect it.

Based on your experience, how many days after “Processing” should I typically expect it to move to “Preparing to Ship” for a standard configuration? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process, or is it just a waiting game?

Thanks again for your insights!
