Removing photos from smart albums but not deleting the photo
Can I remove photos from a smart album in Photos without deleting them. I am going to make a slide show.

No. If a Smart Album is made to show every picture taken after Dec 24, 2023, and before Dec 26 2023, then it will show all of those, since that's what it was told to do. The only pictures not shown in the Smart Album are pictures that don't satisfy the criteria.
What you can do is select all, and then choose "File>New Album with Selection." Then you can delete any pictures you want from the new album you've created. You can make the slide show from that new album.
