imac (early 2009) version 10.11.6, OS X El Capitan

Have new iPhone 16 and trying to load data from the backup of my old iPhone X. Message says software update is required but when I try to update I get message saying software will not update.

Why is a software update required for my Mac now. My iPhone (64) was always able to connect and upload/update my data on to my Mac. Why is a software update required for an iPhone (160) with my Mac now? I do not recognize an iPhone 160.

issues with updating to iOS 18.1 I have recently purchased an iPhone 15 and am having issues with transferring the data from my old iPhone 11. It gets hung up with updating to iOS 18.1 and I find no way around doing this step before continuing on. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Unfortunately that's the latest software an early 2009 iMac will run.

You need a late 2009 iMac to run Sierra.

Otherworld Computing and DV Warehouse are both good places to find refurbished Macs at a good deal.

Upgrading to Sierra - Apple Community

helps you identify which Macs can run Sierra and later.
