As Servant of Cats also indicated, the Canon MX492 is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a supported printer.

Provided that the printer and your iMac computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router), it should be possible to print without additional software/drivers.

After double-checking all settings/connections, you may want to try a full power-cycle sequence (do not forget the Wi-Fi router):

  • Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the iMac, any iPhones/iPads, and all other devices/computers.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the router.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Power on the iMac, any iPhones/iPads, and all other devices/computers.

You could perhaps also check whether a printer firmware update has been made available by Canon.

An iPhone/iPad can be used as an AirPrint test tool as well.

Canon USA Support – Pixma MX492

There are two "RECOMMENDED" drivers for Sonoma:

  • "MX490 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 16.80.0.0" (a printer driver)
  • "ICA Driver Ver. 5.0.0 (Mac)" (a scanner driver)

Neither driver shows up in the list of downloads for Sequoia, so I don't know if that indicates some compatibility issue, or merely that Canon has not confirmed that the Sonoma drivers work properly under Sequoia.

If it turns out that drivers for Sequoia are unavailable or do not work, you might want to try using AirPrint.

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple Support

The printer's Technical Specifications say that it supports AirPrint, although apparently only over Wi-Fi - and not over a hard-wired USB connection.
