If you have set up Hide My Email, your private relay email should forward to your iCloud email address and emails should appear however you read mail from that account.

Here’s an older set of instructions supposedly from Set up and use Hide My Email in iCloud+ on all your devices - Apple Support but I cannot find them in that document.

Set up and use Hide My Email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Your device must have iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or later.

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open Settings.

2. Make sure you’re signed in with your Apple ID. If you are, you see your name at the top of Settings. If you don’t see your name, tap “Sign in to your [device].”

3. To keep your personal email address private, do any of the following:

* In Safari: Open a website, tap in an email field, then tap Hide My Email above the keyboard to generate a new random email address or use one you’ve already created for the website.

* In Mail: (iOS 15.2, iPadOS 15.2, or later) Open a new message window, tap the From field, then choose Hide My Email in the pop-up menu.

* In supported third-party apps: (iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or later) Open an app, tap an email field, then tap Hide My Email above the keyboard to generate a new unique, random email address or use one you’ve already created for the app.

* In Settings: Tap [your name] > iCloud, then tap Hide My Email. You can see and manage all your unique, random addresses.
