The 18.2 update has totally ruined email. It is making it impossible to know if I am seeing all my essential emails as it is categorizing them in a very confusing way. If I am travelling or at work without access to my desktop -I am definitely going to miss important emails. I hate this feature and cannot find a way to opt out of it.
Turn off categorization: Open Mail, tap on the ⋯⃝ in the upper right, and check List View.

Yep! Problem solved. The solution has been provided many times, yet instead of reading to find the answer, some think that posting the same question is the answer. Once again you have provided the correct solution.

Hi from NZ
I was so peed off with the changes to my email and found that Mark_007 had posted how to get rid of those ridiculously unnecessary icons and get emails almost back to previous.
i turned off auto updates. Tonight another update is waiting - there's a huge amount of changes that some might find irritating - I did. Suggest you read what's on list :)

Well, the iOS 18.3.1 blocks a very serious vulnerability, so you put your personal data at risk if you don’t install it. But that’s your choice.

And what is ridiculous to you are features that were asked for by many users, so, as surprising as it seems, not everyone has the same needs as you do.

Have you ever noticed that the same avatars now in Mail have been part of Messages for as long as the iPhone has been around?

What happened to my phone with the new IOS update 18.2? My emails are a mess. And I missed a very important email that was time sensitive. Who thought this was a good idea? And updates should be approved by the phone owner not because Apple thinks it’s a good idea. Can you imagine what so one older will go through finding emails in this new ridiculous update? What a disaster Apple!!!!! Out it back and fix it!!!!

And apparently no one reads release notes either→What’s new in iOS 18 - Apple Support, even though there is a link to it on the Update page.

When I get a new app or an app that has changed, the first thing I do is start poking around. I tap on icons, look at menus, go to settings. I find I can answer most of my own questions pretty quickly. Is that not something most people do? If not, why not?

There seems to be 2 types of users. One set that never wants anything to change and the other that feels Apple is falling behind by not having features that are common elsewhere. At any moment in time, one of those types of users will not be happy.

If the first type was dominant we would still be using MS-DOS on IBM PCs.

I have read and tried all options. They don’t address the issue.

I cannot see emails I know have been sent to me in mail, they don’t appear in list view or any category. I didn’t see them in the app when they arrived - but I can see them when I access my account via web browser.

Yet if I search for the senders name in mail the email appears in the search result.

That’s twice in a row where the update has changed major features in a horrible way!! First it was the photos now the email Please apple go back to the old photos and email. Way too much just to have to get where you want. Complicated things not necessary!! One more crazy update and I’m going back to my Samsung. Which is much easier to use and navigate. Awful awful update!!!

Have you considered the possibility that not everyone thinks it is in a “horrible way”? Your view of the world may not be shared with others. This is an example of Apple adding features that already exist on gmail, Samsung/Android, Microsoft and other mail providers.

As far as going to Samsung, no one here cares. There’s no point in making idle threats to the other users in this user-to-user forum. And I’ve noticed that people who threaten something rarely do it. Those who are going to just do it without threatening.

But if you would like to change the mail app to work the same way it used to work the instructions have been posted over and over and over in the thread you just added to without reading any of it.

Useful, thanks - I'm not against categories - the deep issue is why is the categorization process so bad out of the box?
I agree with you on that. Google’s is much better (but still not perfect).

I've been using Spark (Readdle) for a while. I like the way it handles them. I still mourn Google's Inbox interface, though.
