Slow 'Loading Cloud Music Library' on new MacBook Air

I bought a new MacBook Air, OS Sequoia 15.1.1. two weeks ago.

I joined iTunes Match Friday Dec. 13.

On Friday, Dec. 13, I checked Sync Library in Music on my new laptop, and began loading Cloud Music Library.

On my old MacBook Pro, with OS of High Sierra 10.13.6, I had an iTunes library of 138.13 GB.

138.13 was 6,795 songs, 18.3 days of music.

Have kept both laptops open, plugged in, and running.

It's been four days, as of tonight, Dec. 17. New MacBook Air still shows "Loading Cloud Music Library."

Is this a problem? If not, how long should this take, before I'm able to access my library from my new MacBook Air?

About DTR (Data Transfer Rate):

A. "Quite Some Time":

30 seconds? 10 minutes? An hour? 12 hours? A day? A few days? It all depends on the DTR and anything else getting in the way, such as a Public LAN connection and VPNs being turned on.

B. Your Router:

You have 300-900MBs/seconds router, but if you are not paying for that much speed from your ISP, then all you'll get is what is input. On the otherhand, if you are paying for faster DTR, then you're not getting optimum sue of what you're paying. See here: https://www.netgear.com/images/datasheet/networking/wifirouter/r6120.pdf

Thanks again for your interest and your help.

I think all is well. Before I sent the previous post, I called our local MacLife. They later called me back, and their suggestion was to shut down both laptops and restart. So, I did that.

When my new MacBook Air came up, it was in Music, and I saw all my Playlists. I message popped up saying this computer was not authorized, and I clicked on OK, and then immediately, all my songs started appearing very briefly in a window at the top. All 6800 songs flashed, artist by artist, alphabetically, and after about 30 minutes, it stopped. It appears everything is fine. I haven't tried play songs on my stereo yet. Will try that tonight.

So far, all seems to be as it should be, and thanks so much for your help!

Slow Uploads:

A. Time To Upload:

This should take quite some time, but this would ultimately depending on having a fast Data Transfer Rate. So, just how fast is your router? You Mac it top-end, and with a slow router, you're not getting optimum use of it, with a slow router.

B. Disable a VPN:

Are you connected to a VPN? If so, disconnect form it.

C. Use a Home Network:

If you are using Public LAN, then that can slow things down, immensely. So, disconnect from it.

You are welcome!

Well there you go: You need to authorize it to use it all --and that makes perfect sense.

Excellent job troubleshooting this!

Thank you for the screenshot.

Troubleshooting a Lagging Mac:

Select "Memory" as well. Click Memory in the Menu Bar, and see how much is being used of the CPU. Memory (AKA "RAM")is intended for multitasking (running many processes at once). So, if lots is eaten up, then that would slow things down.

No worries.

Provide a Screenshot:

Nothing is going through Music, if it is not open. But, if it is open, then a percentage should be shown. Can you provide a screenshot of your Activity Monitor? IMPORTANT: Blank out any personal info (i.e. names) by covering with with red-colored rectangles and such through use of the Photos app. I am curious were Music and TV stands. Sort it by the percentage, and then see what is eating the most of the CPU. Go here: Take a Screenshot On your Mac - Apple Support

Streaming:

In all, it seems you are just streaming it, and it is the loading that is lagging --nothing of local storage. So, if it is lagging, then try unplugging your stereo for 30 seconds and then powering it back on. If that does not work, then something may be pending. Or, maybe the lag is just a feature so that things do not get caught while loading. Music would be used for Music, and TV for Movies and TV Shows, instead of iTunes.

For note:

I Use Ruku:

  • How I Play Music:

For me, I play it off of my MacBook Pro, and go out to my Roku through WiFi. Or, I just play it off of Roku itself.

  • How I Play Movies and TV Shows:

For Videos, I connect my video output from MacBook Pro and out to a projector through HDMI, and then stream the audio to Roku through WiFi.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have a Netgear 1200 router, bought last year, but don't know its transfer rate.

No VPN.

On my home network. Connected to our local cable companies internet. Should be fast, but don't know if it's fastest possible.

I'm mostly the only one on our router. My wife gets on her Mac occasionally. For probably 20 hours a day, the Music library is loading.

Dec 17, 2024 10:36 PM in response to TheLittles

Hi and thanks again.

Router: I misinformed you, sorry. My router isn't the one you linked to. My mistake: I have a model CM1200, Multi-Gig Speed Cable Modem, up to 800 Mbps, according to the website, but dependent, as you write, on incoming data rates from my local Sparklight internet provider. It goes to an Apple Airport Express Wireless router. The Setup Guide states it comes with AirPlay so I can play iTunes music through my home stereo speakers, which we do. Obviously my Airport Express is the oldest piece of equipment I have now. Not sure if that's the limiting device.

Activity Monitor: When I look at the Activity Monitor, the Network table, under Music, shows 0 sent bytes and rcvd bytes, and 52,000+ for PID, for each of six different categories (under Music). 0 packets, both sent and rcvd. So, I'm not sure what that means. Does that mean nothing is happening?

Your tip: As for your tip about loading from pre-Ventura, I read your instructions, but I'll have to really take a look at that, as it's a bit beyond my capabilities, at first glance. But maybe I'll need to do that, if the Activity Monitor shows nothing is happening.

Otherwise, I guess I'll continue to wait and wait, unless you know my Activity Monitor is showing a problem, (or my Airport Express is a problem); as I wrote, I'm not sure what 0 sent bytes and 0 rcvd bytes is telling me.

Dec 18, 2024 11:58 AM in response to TheLittles

Hi again,

Thanks for your help with this, again! Since i started the loading, I have not played any music. No movies. Have watched TV some, especially in the evenings. As far as I understand, TV watching goes through our modem to the router, to Roku on the back of our TV. MacBook isn't involved, as far as I know. Any movies, I guess, as far as I understand, would go through the modem to the Airport Express router to our smart TV where we chose Apple TV or Netflix or whatever. When we watched a movie, my old MacBook wasn't open, but when we listened to music, I had to keep my MacBook open to iTunes. So, current usage, with the new laptop since Friday is, I believe, only my time on the MacBook, doing emails, visiting some websites. Although new and old MacBooks have been on continuously since. Screen shots of top halves of the Activity screen are below. Also, I'm not getting an error message; just this constant message, since Friday, when I subscribed to iTunes Match and started the sync:
