Can't access university issued Macbook (the university is permanently closed)

I was an employee of a university that closed down in June '24. They allowed employees to keep our university issued Macbooks, but now I am unable to log into the laptop. There are no options to reset the password and it says I need to contact my administrator... but of course there is no IT and no administrator because there is no more university. Thank you in advance for your help!

There is no help, unless you contact the IT administrator, recycle the macbook, it is useless.

Device belongs to the school.

They should have released it. If you know one of the former IT admins, they may still have access to the platforms and have the ability to assist you. Otherwise, you can nuke and pave, but if it's still tied to Apple Business Manager and the Mobile Device Management platform, it will just re-enroll and you'll be back in the same spot.
