MacBook battery drops to zero after unplugging

My MacBook keeps saying its dead when I turn it on so I plug into charge, it turns on and its always around 60 something%. This issue is annoying but normally that's all.

Today however the standard issue happened but once it turned on I unplugged it as usual and the battery dropped right back down to dying. Plugged it in again back to 63% took it out and its back down to nothing.

Any help would be mutely appreciated!

Are you looking at the battery charge level on the Login Screen or once you log into macOS? The information on the login screen is usually wrong.

Even if you are seeing the 63% charge level after logging into macOS, wait a minute or two to see if that charge level changes. macOS is not always quick to update the information.....it keeps getting worse with each new OS.

It would not surprise me that the battery would be failing for a 2019 model. Most laptop Lithium Batteries need to be replaced between 3 - 5 years. What condition does macOS report for the Battery? You can Option-click the menubar to find out. If you see "Service Recommended", then it means your battery needs to be replaced since you are also experiencing this odd battery behavior. Best time to check would be as soon as you log in after having this problem. If the battery health is "Normal", macOS will not display any battery condition on the menubar.

You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. Once again, the best time to run the diagnostics is immediately after connecting the power adapter.....boot directly into the diagnostics for the best chance of the diagnostics failing the battery test. A passing diagnostic is meaningless here.
