Bought a home pod mini to connect Nest products

Hi just received our mini home pod, we have Google Nest thermostat, smoke detector and doorbell but we are all Apple now and don’t want to spend the extra money to buy all new Apple products. I’d read somewhere that I can connect them to home, but it appears I cannot as the home pod isn’t finding the products and won’t scan the QR code for the thermostat/smoke detector, I haven’t tried the doorbell yet as I doubt it will connect either now. Hate to send the home pod back but will if I can’t connect these. I did a search for my Nest Thermostat E and it is apparently matter compatible (not that I understand what Matter means) I have found a link to a Verge page but they want money to read the article and I’m not doing that.

I am also in Canada

So is there a way to easily connect these products to Apple Home or no?

Thanks

Only newer Nest products that support the Matter protocol will connect to the HomePod Mini. Matter is a new standard for home automation that was developed by many manufacturers (including Apple) that allow connectivity of different brands. Apple added Matter support over a year ago so your new HomePod Mini supports it. Google Nest products now also support Matter but it depends on the model. Investigate whether your current Nest products support Matter.

How to connect a Nest Thermostat to Apple Home through Matter

Well that’s the tricky part is finding out which model, physically it appears to be the Nest E which should be Matter compatible according to my searches, however there’s also not anything in the settings that say matter when there should be according to videos. I’ve tried following steps to get the model but nowhere does it even say “display” as in the steps. As I said by physical appearance it’s the only one that looks like the E but, we also had it for a few years or so as well! So I’ve no clue. Had no idea it would be this difficult my goodness

Thank

you for your reply though

This is the result of both Google and Apple trying to promote their respective technologies over each other. Prior to the support of Matter you would not be able to pair your Nest with your HomePod, period. Apple had their way, Google had their way and their products were never compatible with each other for over a decade.

Bottom line, if you had asked your question a yea or so ago the answer would have been a resounding NO, not possible.
