Using finder on an iMac, however, Finder is not showing results for uploaded iCloud files in the iCloud directory. The files do not show up in search results, but if searched for the file manually, it can be found on the iPhone via the same iCloud as on the iMac.

Please provide a screenshot ( use Shift + Command + 4) of your Finder window including the sidebar so we can look to see what you have showing.
If you do not have your iCloud Drive showing in the sidebar then you need to add that. If you don't know how to add something to the Finder Sidebar please click the following link for a Youtube tutorial that will show you how to add it.
