iPhone activity app black screen

After updating to iOS 18 the activity App launches to a black screen. I would like to have the ability to monitor my heart rate on it while I'm doing a stationary bicycle work out - that was a nice feature that's no longer accessible.

iPhone 12 Pro - iOS 18.2 (22C152), Apple Watch Series 7 -WatchOs 11.2 (22S101).

Problem has persisted since the first RRU for iOS 18. Rebooting/force quit hasn't solved problem. I have not unpaired watch and then paired it again.

I can collect sysdiagnose on both phone and watch if needed. My guess is there is a problem with the Activity App shortly after launch (backboardd?).

I unpaired my watch and paired it again. Fitness/Activity is still a black screen.

Next step is unpair, delete Fitness/Activity App on iPhone, pair watch, install Fitness App.

This is not delighting me as a customer. yes, the phone is 4 generations old. But this failure should have been caught before release during testing.

I'm very tempted to get a sysdiagnose and contact former colleagues.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

I really want to avoid rolling back to September backup.

When I worked in Apple SWE I'd have used TTR to get this filed properly - likely routed to springboard, although I believe it's in the display driver and interactions with the Fitness/Activity App. This does look like an escape during the release process, something in the RRU may not have been tested on all supported hardware.

I've not collected a sysdiagnose, which TTR would do on both the watch and iPhone. I'm probably not going to spend a lot on it.
