Urgent: 3 Critical Finder Issues (Sonoma) Impacting Productivity

I have been an enthusiastic macOS user since 1984 — though it seems more appropriate to say "I was".

Over the years, I’ve seen many invaluable Finder features and brilliant built-in apps like Stickies and TextEdit loosing essential features.

I rely heavily on Finder as a powerful, customisable database for organising my work. My workflow involves:

• Managing filenames and folders in List View to maintain a clear, structured overview.

• Simultaneously viewing multiple (10+) folders/windows, moving items, renaming files, and creating aliases.

•Working exclusively as the sole owner and user of my Mac mini.

However, these three critical Finder issues are severely disrupting my workflow:

1 Permission Errors on Saving Files

Irregularly, when updating the contents of simple text files I created. Upon saving I get the error stating:

"You don’t have permission to write…"

Even restarting Finder doesn’t resolve the issue.

2 Windows Minimising to Thin Strips

Occasionally, Finder windows suddenly minimise into a thin stripe along the nearest screen border without warning or input.

I cannot find any way to disable this feature permanently.

3 Unintended Window Merging

Dragging Finder windows often causes them to merge with others automatically, disrupting my organisation.

Again, I cannot identify how to disable this feature permanently.

These three issues are costing me significant amounts of time every single day.

I hope you (or Apple itself) can provide guidance or solutions to address these critical usability problems.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your response.

1. The issue relates to a bugged security permission.

2. I had already disabled Mission Control. I've now also disabled the second instance of it in Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts — though I’m unsure why it appears twice: System Settings > Keyboards > Keyboard Shortcuts… > Mission Control.

The second tile with 3 sub-choices

3. I couldn’t find anything called "Wendy" in System Settings. Searching for "TAB(s)" didn’t give no helpful results either. Are you referring to the Finder menu option View > Hide/Show Tab Bar? If not, could you clarify what "Wendy-used tabs" are and where to locate them in System Settings?

That all may be well despite these incertainties :-)

Show Desktop, F13.

Dictation. "Wendy" should have been "when"

When I search System Settings for Tabs, I get:

There will be no more feature updates to Sonoma. Once the super seating OS is released (sequoia), the proceeding OS will probably get one last normal update and then only security updates after that. I have no idea what one is. Two) you are activating show desktop in mission control. There’s a function key default shortcut, and you can also set a gesture on probably the magic mouse and the trackpad. Three) turn off using tabs if you don’t want to have tabs there is a toggle for Wendy used tabs in the system settings, and I’m not sure there might be one in Finder settings itself.
