Urgent: 3 Critical Finder Issues (Sonoma) Impacting Productivity
I have been an enthusiastic macOS user since 1984 — though it seems more appropriate to say "I was".
Over the years, I’ve seen many invaluable Finder features and brilliant built-in apps like Stickies and TextEdit loosing essential features.
I rely heavily on Finder as a powerful, customisable database for organising my work. My workflow involves:
• Managing filenames and folders in List View to maintain a clear, structured overview.
• Simultaneously viewing multiple (10+) folders/windows, moving items, renaming files, and creating aliases.
•Working exclusively as the sole owner and user of my Mac mini.
However, these three critical Finder issues are severely disrupting my workflow:
1 Permission Errors on Saving Files
Irregularly, when updating the contents of simple text files I created. Upon saving I get the error stating:
"You don’t have permission to write…"
Even restarting Finder doesn’t resolve the issue.
2 Windows Minimising to Thin Strips
Occasionally, Finder windows suddenly minimise into a thin stripe along the nearest screen border without warning or input.
I cannot find any way to disable this feature permanently.
3 Unintended Window Merging
Dragging Finder windows often causes them to merge with others automatically, disrupting my organisation.
Again, I cannot identify how to disable this feature permanently.
These three issues are costing me significant amounts of time every single day.
I hope you (or Apple itself) can provide guidance or solutions to address these critical usability problems.
Thank you in advance.
