How do you shut down my 2024 MacBook Pro out of the box?

I'm trying to set up my brand new MacBook Pro 14" (bought 12-19-2024).

I ran into a network connection problem I couldn't solve, so I just decided to stop then and there. I was able to click on the back button to get back to the beginning of the "easy" setting up procedure, but I couldn't figure out how to turn it (the computer) off.

How do you shut down this computer?

In the old days all I had to do when I couldn't get my Mac computers to shut down, was to hold down the on button. As long as there was no battery involved, I could always unplug it. With this new one I don't even know how to turn it off. I don't even know how to force it to shut down. Help!

I might just take it back to the store and have them set it up for me.

A deep press of the touch-ID button for ten seconds is the same as using the button formally called power.

Remember that this does an emergency, uncontrolled Power-Down, and is not to be used when other methods such as choosing Shutdown are available.

You can click the Apple menu and select Shutdown. This option is available once you get past the first couple of screens during initial setup. I think I have also used Command + Q to quit Setup Assistant which then shutdown the computer (at least on older versions of macOS).

Holding the power button for about 10 seconds should also power off the laptop.

And that is exactly what I did. Really they coached me through it. The techs were all very nice. I had to ask them a lot of questions. Thanks for your help:-)
