What can someone do with my serial number? Sharing serial number is dangerous?

I shared a post on reddit and here with photos showing the Macbook serial number and other information on the bottom cover, but when I shared it, I didn't realize that information such as the serial number on the cover was visible in the photos. What can they do with this information? What can they access with the serial number? Can they access and steal my personal information such as my address?

It's probably an unlikely prospect that someone could cause you problems, but given how easy it is these days to gather bits of what would seem to be innocuous information like this and develop a complete profile of someone which can lead to serious security compromises, it's wise IMO not to give away any personal information that you don't have to.
