I use an apple pencil 2 with my ipad air 5 but lately the pencil won’t work, it doesn’t respond when I use it to control my screen
I haven’t used the pen in a while but it didn’t drop or anything, I have also tried pairing it again severally but it still won’t work.
the touch on the sides work perfectly for switching tools but the tip won’t work

... and how long is "a while?" If the Pencil is left with little or no charge for an extended period of time (think months), it will lose its ability to be charged and basically become useless.

At this point, it may be possible that the pencil has failed. As such, I suggest your next step would be to contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this matter. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page.
A while is a week, also, it’s charging fine and the tool switching touch is working fine, it just won’t write
