The difference of macbook pro m4 between chinese version and us version

Sup guys, are there any noticeable differences between a MacBook Pro M4 bought in China and the U.S. such as apple intelligence? Will Chinese version MacBook be fully functional in US?

Btw, would Chinese version MacBook be monitored or have other privacy issues?

Hi,

I think there is no difference between Chinese version MacBook Pro and US version one, except keyboard.

Apple Intelligence is in the macOS so it's not a hardware issue.

It's hard to say. Apple Intelligence will not work on a device purchased in China. See How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support

That being said, a Chinese version of a MacBook will still be fully functional - if you know what I mean. 😄

There's no way to tell if a device purchased in China would be monitored or have other privacy issues. That's more a question about your usage. China has pretty strict laws regarding data sovereignty and AI. These laws target major anglo companies like Apple, Google, Meta, etc. But if you take that Chinese computer out from behind the Great Firewall, then you're on your own. Obviously, if you use only Apple apps and services, then you'll be fine. But if you start installing apps made by other companies, especially those closely associated with anglo government intelligence agencies, then you can expect to be monitored and your personal data will be shared with everyone.

Mac keyboards do NOT generate "letters" directly. Instead, they generate key-codes based on the position of the key. These are then looked up (using the keyboard translation you have selected at this moment) to generate a character on the screen.

The major difference with a keyboard bought in China will be the glyphs engraved on the keys. That is all!

Every keyboard includes English characters in addition to local languages, otherwise you could not type apple.com

When keyboards were white, it was good advice to use labels and a sharpie pen to add any extra characters you needed. Apple does not offer a service to replace keyboards with different key-caps -- use a typing chart on the wall.
