This is tedious for me because I don't like to see anything on the screen when I start using my computer, but applications automatically open on my screen when I turn it on. I always close all the applications I have used before turning off my computer, but the applications always open when I turn it on.
Has anyone had this problem before or can anyone help me solve it?

Long ago, the Mac did not automatically try to open everything that was open previously. But now that Apple has added this feature, you might have to turn it off in System {Settings / Preferences} if you don't care for it.

Make sure that apps are not set to launch at login.

There are three menu items on the Apple () menu, not just the one discussed about logging out in your link. One must ensure that none of these have Reopen windows when logging back in selected:
Could be because they were added to login items at one time in system preferences.
