This occasionally is reported. Almost invariably it’s the third party (non Apple) charger. However, a cable can with broken wires may be the cause. The outlet could have issue.

Test by using different cable, wall charger and outlet until issue is isolated to the defective part.

Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between positive and negative charges in objects. These charges can build up on the surface of an object and, when they become large enough, can cause a sudden transfer of electrons from one object to another, resulting in a shock. Here’s a more detailed explanation:

How Static Electricity Occurs:

  1. Charge Imbalance:
    1. Friction: When two different materials rub against each other, electrons can be transferred from one material to the other. For example, walking across a carpet can transfer electrons to your body, creating a charge imbalance.
    2. Contact and Separation: Simply touching and then separating from an object can also cause electron transfer.
  2. Charge Accumulation:
    1. Objects can accumulate static charges if they are good insulators (materials that do not conduct electricity well). This accumulation can happen due to the reasons mentioned above.
  3. Discharge:
    1. When you touch another conductive object, such as a metal object or an electronic device, the accumulated static charge can quickly move from your body to that object, causing a static shock. This is what you feel as a sudden zap.

Why You Might Feel a Shock When Charging Your iPhone:

  • Environmental Conditions: Dry air, especially in winter, can increase the likelihood of static electricity buildup.
  • Materials: The materials of your clothing, the surfaces you touch, and the charging cable or port can all contribute to static buildup.
  • Movement: Moving around or adjusting your position while holding your phone or charger can cause static charges to transfer.

Preventing Static Shocks:

  1. Humidify Your Environment: Use a humidifier to keep the air moist, which can help reduce static buildup.
  2. Wear Natural Fibers: Clothes made from natural fibers (like cotton) are less likely to generate static electricity compared to synthetic fibers.
  3. Touch Metal: Before touching your phone or charger, touch a metal object to discharge any built-up static electricity.
  4. Anti-Static Products: Use anti-static sprays or mats to reduce static electricity in your environment.

If you continue to experience frequent shocks or if the shocks seem unusually strong, it might be worth checking your charger and cables for any faults or considering using a grounded outlet.

Check this out please —> Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector ...

If you have a genuine lightening cable try this...

Touch the end of the lightning cable (the copper part) with a dry or wet hand when the other end is connected to a power source! (After the test please wipe it dry before you use for charging so that water does not enter charging port of your device)

Try it. You will feel nothing. So now you have an answer to your query.
