I attempt to register a new appleID on my sons apple8 phone, and as a parent (since he is underaged) I am asked to authenticate. I have iPhoneX. I enter the 6 digits I get on my phone into my son’s phojes’s prompt, but keep getting the authentication failed message… so what to do? Appreciate any guidance…

You must create a child’s AppleID from YOUR (Adult Family Organizer’s) device.
Create an Apple Account for your child - Apple Support
THEN you csn setup the child’s device with the “adult-created” credentials.
