Why does my iphone keep asking for password of old Apple ID that I no longer use?

Likely because there are apps which you downloaded under that Apple ID. There is generally not a good reason to change your Apple ID. Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID they were downloaded under. You can delete those apps, then redownload or repurchase them under the new Apple ID and this will likely stop.
