SAMSUNG 32DM80 Monitor camera is not registering under hardware in my System Report

Many users will rather do backflips before they would use two cables to talk to one display.

But the choice is yours. The computer and the display are both perfectly capable of using only a short, certified SuperSpeed PLUS 10 G /sec USB cable to run everything on the display, including the camera.

A USB Charging cable without any of those words on it can only work at very low speeds, and can not supply display data. A certified USB cable longer than one meter will cause data errors and the display will quickly go blank (or never light up at all.)

HDMI connection supports display and sound OUTPUT from the computer, ONLY.

If you want to use the camera inside a display, you must interface to it with a USB cable, and the cable you use must be no longer than one meter.

if you are connecting the display via HDMI, you have not provided a pathway for your camera to talk to your Mac. HDMI is one way ONLY, Outbound.

suggests you may need to use ON-Screen display, or possibly this method:

• Connect a USB camera, or use the SmartThings app on your mobile phone to connect a camera. Connect a camera to use video call, home workout, and other new features.
• This function may not be supported depending on the model.

The Mac does not rely on windows-like side-loaded "Drivers" which are actually packages of resolutions and settings for a specific display. Instead, it goes straight to the immutable source -- it asks the display itself.

To get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display. "No signal detected" is generated by the DISPLAY, not by the Mac.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep — so momentarily sleeping and waking your Mac may work

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• hold the Option key while you click on the (Detect Display) button that will appear in Displays preferences (from another display)

so try some of those things and see if the display 'comes alive'.
