Is there a way to go back to an old iOS version? I feel fairly neutral about most of iOS 18 but I absolutely hate how photos is set up now. I don't care about any other aspect of iOS 18 but I need to go back to the way photos used to be, it's driving me crazy.

No. You can not downgrade iOS.
You can customize photos by going to the bottom of the Photos page and tapping Customize & Reorder. This is much more powerful than the fixed setup of the previous Photos app.

But whatever you prefer, you are limited by the features of the new photos app. Have you noticed that you sort the list of photos?
I am aware of how to use the new setup and do not prefer everything being on one page in a list.
You might want to let Apple know. If enough users do the same, maybe Apple will listen.
