I am trying to backup my phone to the cloud. I currently utilize 49.2mb of 5GB. I receive the message that the iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available.

Which means the backup is more than 5GB. Check Settings ➡️ Apple ID ➡️ iCloud ➡️ iCloud Backup ➡️ Your Device, and see what’s getting backed up. You can turn off items and apps there to reduce the backup size.
